Why This Work Matters
Outside of her work, she is a devoted mother to a daughter and son. She attends their activities, cares for other family members and friends, and loves to read, write, and publicly speak. Her hobbies are crafting, music, and fitness.
Her Approach with a Thoughtful “Less Is More” Philosophy
Judy describes her work as objective, empathetic, nonjudgmental, and focused on the whole-person. She listens for themes and patterns; analyzes data; considers possible root causes among the complex interplay between the body, mind, and spirit; and helps patients understand their conditions and reasoning behind recommendations.
Medication recommendations are made carefully with the root cause in mind, but is not expected to resolve symptoms or root cause 100% and usually require non-medication approaches. With proper education, recommendations are made with the patient at the forefront, in collaboration, so care remains patient-centered.
Clinical & Teaching Experience
Judy’s experience includes early clinical work focused in cardiac & medical surgical care. She finished the cardiac clinical nurse specialist program at Loyola University Niehoff School of Nursing and added the adult nurse practitioner training to broaden her knowledge. She has worked in various roles such as a nurse practitioner, clinical nurse specialist, director of home health care, and hospice volunteer. She assisted opening Adventist Bolingbrook Medical Center as a co-regional educator. At Rush Copley, she was the first Intermediate Care Area (ICA) educator to co-launch a new graduate residency program. She assisted in overturning the unit’s low patient satisfaction scores to reach the highest level; helped implement mock codes for advanced cardiac life support competency; and mentored nurses advancing their education.
Teaching has remained central to her work and passion. She has served as an NCLEX state board instructor for Hurst and as full-time faculty member at the University of St. Francis (USF) and as an Associate Professor at the College of DuPage (COD). She taught diverse subjects across the curriculum. At College of DuPage, Judy was charged to create the first curriculum for behavioral health for their concept-based curriculum, obtained her post-master’s Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Certification in 2016, and then co-chaired the nursing program at COD in 2021-2022. Currently, she precepts graduate nurse practitioner students.
